I started with a power loss problem and continue with a broke down engine.

One valve broke and smashed the cylinder, piston and the cylinder head. Estimated repair cost 1.400 Ł. I

I cannot believe such an engine is hard to find! Surely this is the same engine (2.0 DOHC) that is fitted to Transits, Mondeos etc? I know it's a bit more difficult to change but you should be able to find a compatible engine somewhere.

 

...or does it have the 2.0 VW engine as fitted to Passats, Golfs etc (didn't some of the early ones have VW motors?) I'm not aware that Ford have made a new 2.0 8 valve engine since the good ol' Pinto!

The Engine used in the Galaxy was derived from the Sierra unit introduced with the 86(?) facelift. IIRC It was both DOHC and 8 Valve to provide a hemisphericle comustion chamber (i.e. the valves were inclined at 45 deg to the piston crown and 90deg to each other). It was used in the RWD Sierra and Granada and as a FWD unit in the RS2000.

Thanks for the advice. Since my last post I have got offers for refurbished engines, but they were also in the region of 1100-1400 Ł. Cheapest offer for a new engine is 1500Ł in case I return the old one

Also I have learned that very similar engines were built into the Scorpio, with engine code NSD, and the Transit with engine codes NSF and NSG. (my gal
